I like your boobs. They’re very friendly and unpretentious. (Film Draft)

I know the general consensus on 2006 is that it was a weak year for films.  Well, taking a look at my top 15-20 from that year (which doesn’t exactly align with many critics’ lists), it seems like much of it was engineered specifically for me. Sure, there was plenty of shit (The Da Vinci Code) and disappointments (X-Men 3).  But, man, cinema was largely a euphoric retreat back in ought six.

And so, because I can’t pick Princess Mononoke again, it’s…

The Science of Sleep

This one finds its way to my center most self.  Impossibly sweet, charming, funny, touching, and just all-around wonderful.  There’s an innocence to it that makes it all the more alluring.  Plus, Taos hates it, and that warms my heart.

I love it even more than what most consider to be Gondry’s masterstroke, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

I’ll now prepare for a potential onslaught of hate mail.

I agree, this is a really great film, but I have to give Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind the award.
